Core5Plus Priority Tool © Boyd Wichman
There are 3 basic item grouping, enclosure, functional area, and decorative decor then each of the 3 groups have a priority tool. Focal point to Support item. There is a rating system for priority. Matching the 2 focal point for the enclosure and functional area is the best situation. If the decorative area also matches then that is even better. The decorative decor priority is important but different.
These elements are the items that create the interior of any space. The focal point is chosen first, then the 3 items that best support the focal point. Then an unusual/unique item is added to the mix for conversation and attitude. Finally every other item is a support item. Core5Plus © 2015

5. Color Scheme
These are questions and answers to gather information about the space and the clients needs.
Monochromatic color schemes utilize a single color with variable shades and tints to create a consistent look and feel.
Analogous color schemes are developed by pairing one prominent color with the two colors just next to the color on the color wheel.
Complementary color scheme is based on using two colors straight across from each other positioned on the color wheel and appropriate tints of those colors.
Split complementary scheme includes one predominant color and the two colors just adjacent to the dominant color’s complement.
Triadic color schemes are assembled by selecting three equally arranged colors in lines about the color wheel.
The square color scheme employs four colors at equal distances from each hue on the color wheel to form a square or diamond figure.
Tetradic color scheme, the rectangle tool is comparable to its square counterpart but delivers a more subtle approach to color selection.
6. Interior Floor Plan
These are questions and answers to gather information about the space and the clients needs.
Floor plans are carefully scaled drawings that display the relationship between rooms, spaces ( 2 or more rooms together), and physical characteristics viewed from above. They deliver a tool to visualize how individuals will progress through the area. Floor plans help make it easier to study if the space is appropriate for its intended use or purpose, then work through any potential issues and redesign before proceeding into additional or elaborate planning or construction stages.

Tool 07 — Design Process 7 Basic Decisions for the Space Design
These are questions and answers to gather information about the space and the clients needs.
1. "Room Design I.T." Driving Forces © Boyd Wichman
A. Order
Order is one of the most basic goals of the design tool. Order can be developed in many different ways. Many design functions and displays are involved in an orderly arrangement. Different functions has to be organized into a cohesive scheme that works very effectively as a unit while physical elements need to be balanced into harmonious arrangements then spaces need to be presented and developed in a tool to allow proper orientation.
B. Item Relationship Ideas
It is necessary to understand how the space works at all levels of design; from the individual items to the total concept of the project. The project understanding has many layers at many levels.
C. Stimulation Ideas:
Optimal level of the characteristics of a space reside somewhere between total regularity and total disorder; the exact level has to be determined by each user’s needs and wants. An usable, functional, and orderly environment will not stimulate the users. Some level of stimulation is necessary for all spaces. The challenge is to determine what level of stimulation is needed and necessary.
D. Safety and Connection Ideas
Facilitating the design process are the needs for appropriate levels of grounding, connection and visual openness. Once these basic needs are determined then the furnishing and objects can be placed in the space. The selection, composition and arrangement of these space elements has an impact on the design of the space. Also, the location, size and placement will aid in the user experience. The space users will greatly appreciate the time spent planning the placement of the elements.
E. Design Basis Ideas:
Making your thoughts and feelings known can be accomplished through the space elements chosen. Symbolic ideas from practical life experiences can convey relevant human qualities and situations. Ascending/Descending can carry ideas climb or to step up to location or platform. Constraint/Freedom may may have feelings of restriction or confinement for small areas. Admittance /Rejection can defer to to idea of welcomingness or openness to a space from a door or hallway.
2. "Room Design I.T." Space/Room Design Approach © Boyd Wichman
These are questions and answers to gather information about the space and the clients needs.
There are 4 generic approaches to design Interiors.
1) Fine-Tune Design Approach: clients are confident, comfortable and satisfied with the basic style direction; just some needs haven’t ben met with enclosure, functional areas and decorative decor.
2) Create Superior: clients are needing a beautiful, functional, and efficient space; there is a need to make big changes in the enclosure, functional areas and decorative decor.
3) Challenge Existing: clients are needing to push the limits of the existing residence, unhappy with current styling, need a big change.
4) Limited: Client need to limit the project, because of funds, labor, time available or market value.
3. "Room Design I.T." Space/Room Design Triangle © Boyd Wichman
These are questions and answers to gather information about the space and the clients needs.
In developing any design program, three main parts must be considered: the Enclosure, the Functional areas, and the Decorative decor plus the Utilities. Each of these planning parts is a living entity with interests and objectives. We can call them, collectively, the DSSM Design Triangle. In the context of the DSSM Triangle, the job of planning is to provide the best interior design program to match client needs to the house style and neighborhood. At the same time, the Design Decorator/Contractor must ensure that the strategy correctly matches the house’s strengths with the needs of a clearly defined neighborhood while always following the needs of the client and the family. Positive matching of the needs and objectives of the three parties involved is required for a good lasting relationship; without it, the project’s long-term viability may be at risk.

A color scheme that states: 60% of the space or the foundation base is one color, 30% is an optional color while 10% is for accent or decorative items. Walls, accent items, area rugs, statement ‘pieces’ should account for 60%, curtains, painted furniture, side chairs, and smaller statement items would be 30%, while pillows, fabrics, accessories and artwork would be 10%. Many different color selections are available.

Tool 15—— Principles © Boyd Wichman
These are questions and answers to gather information about the space and the clients needs.
Design principles will help you design any space, with all the spaces having a cohesive feeling and being put together.
A space has to have a good or great functional use.
A mood or feeling can be created with colors, textures, patterns, and accessories; then, add a personality to the space with accessories.

Space Zones: The placement of movable furniture and furnishings in the sole.
What was placed in these areas?
Organizational Strategies: These two tools can be used individually or together.
Centering: The alignment of the centers of various individual items or groupings.
Alignment: Positioning of the edge of individual pieces or groupings along a standard reference line.
These strategies create a cohesive balance within a space.
Types of Alignment There are five types of alignment: edge alignment & center alignment.1,
- Edge alignment: the placement of design elements on the edges of any composition.
There are four types of edge alignments.
- Center alignment: the placement of design elements along the imaginary central axis of any composition.
- Visual alignment_use your sight to place and align the items.
- Object alignment_ Align the mixed type of items by positioning them with a center alignment.
- Grid alignment usesmultiple vertical and horizontal lines to create space selections.
Symmetry: The mirroring or repetition of visual elements to create a balanced and harmonious interior.
Symmetry is a visual language that speaks to our innate desire for order and balance.
It’s a tool that designers wield with great skill, and when properly used, it can transform any space into a masterpiece of design.
Grounding Items –To feel safe and comfortable in a space.
Emphasis-Creating a space/room Focal Point.
Repetition and Movement or Rhyme- Incorporating similar patterns, colors, shapes, forms, and textures in the items.
Contrast–When you select two or more items that have opposing characteristics next to each other or together, you’re creating contrast.
Negative–Incorporating negative space in your design means giving plenty of room for elements to breathe.
This Area is the space where there is no furniture, texture, design, or Decor.
Negative space is vital because it plays a crucial role in creating balance.
You don’t want to leave empty spaces where you feel something should be.
Instead, you only want to incorporate negative space in areas that make sense and go well with your design.
Balance-When designing the interior of your home, you want to make sure you’re evenly distributing elements to create visual balance.
You can achieve this by introducing different forms, colors, and textures.
There are two main things to consider as you create balance
Proportion-This is the relationship between the size of the item and the space.
Use standard sizes as a starting point, then adjust for more significant for emphasis or minor for less noticeability.
